The short answer

Privately, weight loss injections cost from £89 (Wegovy) or £144 (Mounjaro) for the first month. The price then rises as your dose goes up. Over six months, the typical provider charges £1,026 for Wegovy and £1,569 for Mounjaro, and a first year on Mounjaro costs about £2,560–£3,780.

Most price claims you will see online are a first-month price, often with a new-customer discount on top. That is the cheapest month you will ever pay. This guide uses the regular list prices that 16 UK providers publish on their own websites, last checked on 2 Nov 2026, so you can see what treatment actually costs once the offers run out.

The first month is the starting dose. The six-month figure follows the standard step-up schedule and includes the fees each provider charges.

“Typical” is the median provider. Ranges cover every provider with a complete, verified price ladder for that treatment. Weight loss figures are the average across everyone who started each medicine’s main trial, at the dose shown, alongside diet and activity advice. They come from separate trials, not a head-to-head comparison, and individual results vary.

Of the 4 treatments we compare, Foundayo has the lowest typical six-month cost and Mounjaro the highest, a difference of £657. But cheaper does not mean the same result. In their main trials, people lost an average of 11.2% on Foundayo and 20.9% on Mounjaro. The medicines also differ in how they are taken and in side effects, and a prescriber decides which one suits you.

Why the second month costs more than the first

Every weight loss injection starts on a low dose and steps up about every four weeks, which helps your body get used to it. Higher doses cost more, so your bill climbs with them. This is Mounjaro across 16 providers:

DoseUsually fromLowestTypicalHighest
2.5mgMonth 1£143.96£179.00£229.00
5mgMonth 2£169.99£197.00£259.00
7.5mgMonth 3£232.99£254.50£289.00
10mgMonth 4£259.99£284.50£319.00
12.5mgMonth 5£279.99£304.50£360.00
15mgMonth 6£298.97£319.50£360.00

Prices are for one four-week pen. At a typical provider, the top dose costs £140 a month more than the starting dose. Not everyone needs to go all the way up. Many people stay on a lower dose that works for them, which keeps costs down. That is a decision to make with your prescriber.

What a year of treatment costs

Weight loss medicines work while you take them, and most people who stop regain some weight. So it is worth budgeting for at least a year. A year is 13 four-week pens. Stepping up until you reach the dose that works for you and staying there, a typical provider’s Mounjaro prices come to:

  • about £2,560 a year if you settle on 5mg
  • about £3,780 a year if you go all the way up to 15mg

These estimates include upfront fees, but not delivery charges after the first six months.

Same medicine, very different prices

Two identical plain white boxes side by side, one with a short stack of pound coins and one with a much taller stack

Every provider supplies the same branded pens from the same manufacturer. Even so, six months of Mounjaro costs £1,410 at Chemist Click and £1,764 at Second Nature. That is £354 for the same treatment.

Some of that gap pays for extras, such as coaching, dietitian access or more frequent check-ins. Those can be worth having, but only you can judge whether they are worth the difference. Compare what each provider includes.

The extra costs to watch for

  • Consultation fees. Most providers include the consultation, but 2 of the 16 we compare charge £99.00 to £99.99 up front. That can make a provider with cheap pens dearer overall.
  • Delivery. 9 providers deliver free. 3 charge £2.90 to £6.25 per order, which adds up over a year of monthly orders.
  • Introductory offers. 7 providers offer £20 to £75 off your first order. That is a real saving, but it applies once. Judge a provider on what it charges from the second month on.
  • Subscriptions and cancellation terms. Some providers bill monthly until you cancel. Check the notice period and whether you can pause.

NHS vs private: who pays what

On the NHS, you pay the standard prescription charge in England, and nothing in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. The catch is eligibility. NHS criteria are far stricter than private ones, and the tirzepatide rollout is being phased in over several years, so most people who want treatment now are not yet eligible.

Treatment started privately cannot be moved to an NHS prescription later. Find out who qualifies on the NHS and privately.

Five ways to pay less, safely

  1. Compare the six-month total, not the first month. The cheapest starting price is not always the cheapest provider once the dose goes up.
  2. Check the price of the dose you will stay on. That is what you will pay for most of your treatment.
  3. Add up all fees. Count consultation, delivery and any membership charge.
  4. Treat discounts as a bonus. Pick a provider for its regular price, then enjoy any first-order saving.
  5. Never buy outside a registered pharmacy. Cheap pens sold through social media or “research” websites are often fake. Here is why unregulated versions are risky.

Frequently asked questions

How much is Mounjaro a month in the UK?

Privately, your first month of Mounjaro costs £144 to £298 across the 16 providers we compare, including any upfront fees. The price rises with each dose: the top 15mg dose typically costs around £319 a month.

How much is Wegovy a month in the UK?

Your first month of Wegovy costs £89 to £268, including any upfront fees. Over the first six months, the typical provider charges £1,026 in total, about £171 a month on average.

How much does a year of weight loss injections cost?

At a typical provider, a first year on Mounjaro costs about £2,560 if you settle on the 5mg dose, and about £3,780 if you go up to 15mg.

Why does the price go up every month?

Weight loss injections start on a low dose and step up roughly every four weeks so your body can adjust. Providers charge more for higher doses, so the second, third and later months usually cost more than the first.

Can I get weight loss injections on the NHS?

Yes, if you meet NHS criteria, which are much stricter than private ones. You then pay only the standard prescription charge in England, and nothing in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

How we work out these prices

We record each provider’s regular list price for every dose from its own website and check those pages automatically twice a week. We never use new-patient, first-order or discount-code prices. Six-month costs assume one four-week supply per dose step on the standard schedule, plus the provider’s recorded fees.

Prices change often, so confirm the current price with the provider before you pay. This guide is not medical advice. Only a prescriber can decide whether a treatment is right for you.
